D1Arrive in Nanchang, with a dedicated vehicle meeting you at the station. [Free time: daytime suggestions—Tengwang Pavilion + Bayi Square + August First Uprising Memorial Museum + Wanshou Palace Historical and Cultural Street + food on Zhubao Street; evening suggestions—Tengwang Pavilion cruise + Seeking Dreams at Tengwang evening banquet + Qiushui Square + the Ferris wheel.] Overnight in Nanchang.

Breakfast: Nanchang is famous for its mixed rice noodles. Their distinctive flavour comes from plenty of oil without being overly greasy, and they are particularly spicy, yet inexpensive. Earthenware jar soup is also excellent value: the meat is stewed until so tender that it falls apart at a light touch, while the broth remains fairly clear and tastes fresh and sweet. Lunch: Nanchang has a wide variety of food: Wanshou Palace Food Street, Zhubao Street snacks, Jiandeguan Hotpot Street, Hama Street late-night food, Chuanshan Street late-night grilled fish, the local Jijihong hotpot chain, earthenware jar soup, Nanchang mixed rice noodles and fried rice noodles. Jiangxi cuisine uses plenty of salt, oil and chilli, so enjoy it with care. Dinner: Dinner at your own expense.
Accommodation: Reminder: give the traveller's name at hotel reception to check in. An incidental deposit is required at reception and will be returned the next day. ['Hotel of your choice', 'Hotel of your choice']

Jingdezhen The Sculpture Porcelain Factory has ceased production and is now a gathering place for young ceramic artists, as well as the location of a well-known market. Its comprehensive pottery facilities make it easy for artists to obtain clay and send formed pieces to kilns for firing, greatly reducing both production and labour costs. Taoshe also has pottery shops, cafés and workshops. Whether you want to try throwing a pot or study ceramics more systematically, this is one of Jingdezhen's best options. The Saturday market is also recognised locally as one of the city's highest-quality pottery markets.
There are many small pottery shops within Jingdezhen's Sculpture Porcelain Factory, each with its own distinct style. It is worth taking time to browse and find pieces that appeal to you.

A huge, colourful circular porcelain palace, covered in tens of thousands of porcelain fragments, bottles and plates, has become a Jingdezhen landmark. Its creator also has a remarkable story: an 80-year-old woman spent 5 years and CNY60,000,000 building it.

‘Light of the Earth’ is an installation created by Ma Yansong for the ‘Art at Fuliang 2021 — Place · Discovery’ festival. It explores the role of public art in rural development, making the installation a bridge between people and nature. Located atop a tea hill in Hanxi Village, Jingdezhen, it takes the local curved terrain as the basis for its form. A simple ring of white membrane encloses it, with a viewing platform beneath, creating a public space for residents to gather and visitors to rest. Seen from afar, ‘Light of the Earth’ suggests the blank space of an Eastern composition, blending into nature.

Dongbu was called Hongtan during the Song dynasty. With Gaoling to its north and the Dong River below, flowing from east towards the southwest, its name means a wharf beside the Dong River. The river rises in Gaoji Mountain in Yaoli, passes Dongbu Village beneath Gaoling Mountain, and eventually joins the Chang River. It was the main route connecting eastern Fuliang with the outside world in ancient times. In 2003, Dongbu was named among the first Jiangxi Provincial Historic and Cultural Villages. The wharf on Dongbu's old street was also a filming location for productions including ‘Sparkling Red Star’, ‘Dedicate Everything to the Party’ and ‘The Story of the Yangtze River’.
